Best Internet in Newfoundland and Labrador (2026)

What's available in St. John's and across the province, what it really costs, and how to figure out what reaches your home.

By Purple Cow Internet · October 2026

TL;DR

Internet options in Newfoundland and Labrador depend heavily on where you live. Different cable networks serve different parts of the province, fibre reaches parts of the larger centres, and many rural and remote communities rely on fixed wireless or satellite. In most Newfoundland communities, if your home can get cable internet, Purple Cow can get internet to you: 100 Mbps for $60/month, flat, with no contract, unlimited data and a router included. We also offer TV and home phone. The exception: Purple Cow doesn't currently serve St. John's or Mount Pearl.

Newfoundland and Labrador is a big province with a lot of very different places in it, and internet options change a lot from one town to the next. This guide covers what's available, what it costs, and how to figure out what actually reaches your home.

The quick answer

  • In St. John's and Mount Pearl: most homes can get cable internet from the area's main cable company, and fibre to the home reaches many neighbourhoods. Purple Cow doesn't currently serve St. John's or Mount Pearl.
  • Outside the St. John's area, if you can get cable internet: Purple Cow can most likely serve you, and offers 100 Mbps for $60/month with no contract and no price increase after a promo.
  • If you upload a lot and fibre reaches your street, fibre's faster upload is worth considering.
  • Rural and remote communities, including much of Labrador: fixed wireless or satellite internet are often the main options.

What kinds of internet are available in Newfoundland and Labrador?

Cable internet

Cable is the most common wired internet in the province, but it isn't one network. The St. John's area is mostly served by one cable network, and many other communities across the province are served by another. Cable download speeds are fast, up to around 1 Gbps. Upload speeds are much lower, typically 10 to 15 Mbps, which works for most households.

Fibre to the home

Fibre reaches parts of St. John's and some other larger centres. Its big advantage is upload speed. Availability varies by street, so check your exact address.

Fixed wireless and satellite

In rural Newfoundland and much of Labrador, wired networks don't reach every home. Fixed wireless and satellite internet are often the main options there. Our Purple Cow vs. Starlink guide explains how satellite compares with wired internet.
